How the AI agent works
What OpenMap’s agent does for you, what it doesn’t, and where you stay in control.
The short version
- You’re dealing with an AI. Messages it sends for you say so.
- It stops and asks you before signing in, paying or sending in your name.
- It can make mistakes. Check what matters before you approve or rely on it.
- It doesn’t give legal, medical, financial or tax advice.
What the agent does
When you ask, OpenMap’s agent can:
- search OpenMap, Companies House and the web, and compare what it finds;
- browse websites for you in a private browser that runs on our servers;
- send enquiries and requests for quotes to businesses, and to the agents some businesses use;
- make calls in the app, where that’s switched on for you;
- hold and book appointments, and prepare orders;
- write letters and messages for you to check; and
- set reminders, and run schedules and standing instructions you set up.
Your approvals
The agent acts on your instructions. Before it signs in to an account, pays, or sends something in your name to someone new, it stops and shows you what it’s about to do. You type your own passwords, one-time codes and card details; the agent never does. You can change how often it asks in Settings, Approvals, and you can stop a task at any time.
When you approve a step, check the details first: who it’s with, the date and time, the price, the address and what will be shared. Your approval is your decision.
Its limits
- It can misunderstand you, miss things, or say things that aren’t true. Facts like prices and opening times can be out of date.
- It may not finish a task: sites can block it, change, or ask for checks only a person can do. It tells you when it stops, and never pretends a task is done.
- It doesn’t know about your situation beyond what you tell it and what it remembers, which you control on your Memory page.
- Results and rankings come from what it finds and how well businesses match your request. Businesses don’t pay to rank higher unless a result is labelled as sponsored.
Not professional advice
The agent doesn’t give legal, medical, financial, investment, tax or insurance advice, and it won’t compare or recommend credit, insurance, mortgages, pensions, investments or energy deals. For those, speak to a qualified adviser or an official service, such as NHS 111, Citizens Advice or MoneyHelper. In an emergency, call 999.
When it contacts businesses
Messages the agent sends for you are labelled as coming from your OpenMap agent (for example “sent by Sam’s OpenMap agent”), and it shares only what the task needs. The business’s reply comes back to your chat. Any agreement you then make is between you and the business; OpenMap isn’t a party to it.
Your data
The Privacy Notice explains what the agent uses, who it shares it with, and how long it’s kept. The Terms of Use set out the rules.
